William & Kate

I know Prince William has been following Yard Sale Snoop for quite some time. I'd just like to wish you and Kate all the best for a happy marriage.

Here's one of those all-time classic music videos featuring Charles and Diana. How time marches on...

Our Gerbils

I wasn't going to blog about this, but what the heck. We have no secrets...

Last night, one of my son's pet gerbils had something in his mouth. I thought he had taken a chomp out of his snack shack. Well, upon closer inspection, I realized it was a baby gerbil! Yes, Murdoch the gerbil (Duncan named them after Thomas the Tank Engine characters) turned out to be a SHE. SHE delivered three pups last night. They were very cute, but sadly the three were dead by the morning. I did a little research and it looks like she may have had such a small litter that she wasn't able to produce enough milk to keep them alive. It was a little bit of a bummer having to pull dead gerbils out of the cage. I let Duncan see them, since it's all part of the life cycle. He wasn't upset.

Anyway, we were trying to figure out what is the better option, separating the male from the female in order to prevent more litters, or letting them stay together since they've bonded. Perhaps they're in love? When I took them out of their cage to wash it out today, Diesel was already mating with Rosie (aka Murdoch). We may have more pups on the way.

More drama...

Here's a cute video of baby gerbils. I'm such an animal lover. When I'm an old lady, I'll be like Brigitte Bardot with her animal sanctuary.

All My Children

Hello,
Sometimes people leave comments on posts that get bumped down onto a "previous" page and I don't think to go back. I just wanted to thank Laura for her "go girl" comments about my ranting and raving about Rob Ford as Mayor of Toronto. I try to not be too political on this blog, but I know that a few people from Toronto read it and I needed to vent. I'd also like to welcome Darrin, the Retro Dad. I thought you were already a follower. I'm pretty sure I follow your blog, Daddy-o, but I've got you liked, so I check in when I see you've got something new posted in Coolsville.

Here's a vintage commercial for Laura and Darrin, Retro Dad. Every time Rob Ford talked about the gravy train at City Hall, I thought of this commercial. In the world of Ghost Hunters, they'd call this spooky chuck wagon a "residual haunting." Whatever it is, it's tormenting the poor doggie.
Enjoy.

Glassbake Info

Thanks to Sir Thrift-A-Lot, I found a link to information on Glassbake. It's taken from a terrific blog some of you may already know about, called The Kitschy Collector Home of C. Dianne Zweig. I still don't know anything about the pattern on my recently acquired casserole dish, but I do like this blog a lot. I will link it in my favourite thrift blogs.

Here's my tribute to Sir Thrift-A-Lot: Medieval rockabilly par excellence. Get into it.

Vintage Glassbake Casserole

I'm getting better at spotting the difference between Pyrex, Fire King, and Glassbake, though I don't know too much about Glassbake.
Look at this charming dish. I discovered it today at the Value Village near my school. It was $7.99, but was in mint condition. I'll have to Google Glassbake later to learn more about it. If you know, please drop me a line.
Happy thrifting this weekend.

Here's Crowded House with a sad, beautiful song. It makes me think of their drummer Paul Hester who took his own life. Music lives forever.

Gobble Goblets

I hit the Value Village near my school, after school today. They only had plain white Pyrex, but I did score big with these vintage Thanksgiving wine glasses. They were .99 each. Sweet!
After the clocks went back an hour this weekend, we've lost even more late-day sun, hence the harsh flash on the first picture...
May your goblet overfloweth with an abundance of thrifted goodies.

I also found a vintage Fisher-Price fire station for Duncan. It was ninety-nine cents, but I couldn't get a decent picture of it. I'll try anther day.
Bye for now,
Erin

About Me

My photo
I'm a slightly off-beat Toronto-area teacher who enjoys writing and photography. I come from a family of collectors and now I'm dragging my own family around to yard sales. It's just a bit of fun. Enjoy the scenes.
